What is subdivision?
Subdivision refers to the process whereby an existing parcel, that has already been identified, mapped and certified, is divided into 2 or more smaller parcels. This may take place for a variety of reasons:
- A family group that has certified a single large parcel may decide that they wish to certify the various parcels held by each household within the family group
- A parent may decide that they want to allocate some of their land to one or more of their children
- A person with a certified parcel may decide that they want to transfer a part of their existing parcel to another person
The process for dealing with these subdivisions is as shown in Figure 1.
