What are new claims or new allocations?
Not all the land within the villages was certified during the systematic process:
- Some areas of the villages were identified as currently communal access areas which might be allocated to people in the future
- Some families and/or individuals were absent or chose not to participate in the systematic certification process
In the future therefore there may be new claims over existing land holdings, from people who already have recognised customary rights to use the land, or new allocations of currently unoccupied land to existing residents or incomers to the village.
The process for dealing with these new claims or allocations is shown in Figure 1.
